“Love you, too.” In the living room, the crowd goes wild, and Krish extracts himself from Dane, grabbing the bag of pretzels where he’s left it on the table. “I’m missing the second half.”

As he disappears into the other room, Dane stares at the business card. What’ll it hurt?Before he can change his mind, he sets his guitar aside, snags the card, and hurries to the phone in the hall. Krish sits on the couch, watching the game—he looks up when Dane passes, flashes him a wan smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes. I love you for this,Dane thinks as he stands in the darkened hall and squints at the number on Blake’s card. Before he can lose his nerve, he dials the number and waits.
