“So what,” Jesse asked, “you pulled out your marked deck?”
Diego nodded. “Damn straight. No one knows it’s marked. Well, no one but you and the guys. But it’s not obvious, you know?”
Jesse sat down on the edge of the bed to tug on his boots, and Ethan reached out to touch his shoulder. Jesse kissed Ethan’s hand where it rested on his arm as Diego continued.
“This guy, he’s evil I swear, he tells me the cards are marked. I say, ‘You calling me a cheat?’ He says, ‘Yeah, you’re a cheat.’ So I get pissed and pull out my gun. I ain’t fast like you but I can hold my own.”
“And then?” Jesse prompted.
