Chapter 29

The crowd went wild. Around the stadium, people surged to their feet, and in his dugout, Matt stood as well, mouth agape. Damn.Turning, he asked no one in particular, “Did you seethat?”

Vic’s momentum carried him over home plate and into the foul zone—he finally skidded to a stop a few feet shy of Matt’s dugout. “What the hell was that?” Matt called, climbing out to meet his lover on the field.

Vic shrugged. “What?” He breathed normally, and hadn’t even broken a sweat. Glancing at the scoreboard, he asked, “Was I fast or something?”

“Or something!” Matt laughed. “Jesus, Vic. The other guys haven’t even scoredyet!”
