The only person he ever trusted with the powers, the only person he knew could handle them and the responsibility that came withthem, was Vic.

After a terse moment, Roxie sighed. “Ah well. Third time’s a charm, eh?” When Matt started to speak, she cut him off. Apparently she was determined to hold onto her mood, whether or not she pissed him off in the process. “Don’t try to understand, Matt. You’re practically married to Mr. Perfect. The rest of us aren’t that fortunate.”

Matt didn’t know what to say to that, so he watched the floor indicator as it flipped through the numbers. Eleven, twelve, fourteen…almost there.Because he didn’t want to leave things tense between them, he said softly, “You’re a great girl, Roxie. I’m sorry if the guys you date don’t tell you that.”

Sixteen.The elevator shook to a stop and Roxie stepped forward to stand in front of the door. Reaching out, she took Matt’s hand in hers and gave him a brave smile. “Thanks. I’m sorry if I was a bitch earlier…”
