He suppressed a smile. Matt’s juice, he thought, amused.

But Kendra shook her head. “Nope, sorry. The only superheroes I’m going to let through this barricade are those that work for VEPCo. Turn around and go on home.”

Vic tried again. “There are people trapped in these buildings—”

“I know.” She gave him a sad smile. “We’re working on it, Vic. We’ve got it covered. I know you want to help…”

Then it dawned on her why he was there—her eyes widened and she pushed her cap back as if that would give her a better look at him. “Wait, is Matt down here somewhere? I thought he worked in the West End.”

“He’s in a workshop in that building there.” Vic pointed out the offending structure; Kendra glanced at it, her expression grim. “Actually, no. He’s in an elevator, trapped between floors. And I hate to say this, but neither downed power lines nor the Richmond police are going to keep me from him. So you can either move one of these cars out of my way, or I can move it for you.”
