When the kiss ended, Vic assured him, “I love you, you know that. I don’t have to have sex with you to prove it.”

Feeling recalcitrant and hating himself for it, Matt pouted. “I know. I love you, too. But you have to admit, the sex really is the cherry on top.”

Vic grinned. “Then lay back. Maybe we can bend the rules a little bit. Just this once.”

Matt started to do as commanded, then felt something warm and furry behind him and sat up quickly. Turning, he found Sadie lounging on the cushion at the end of the couch. “Great,” he said. “I’m finally about to get my way and youhave to ruin it. Go sleep somewhere else, will you?”

She blinked up at him, too content after her second dinner to move.

“Sadie,” Matt warned. He felt Vic’s hands rub along his arms and had to resist the urge to push the dog off the couch. “Go on, get. Get off! Bad dog.”

Her ears flicked back, but otherwise she set her head in her paws and ignored him.
