“Right. I think she lives in Pennsylvania. She was dumped here because Milton lived here and knew of a place where he thought they’d never find her. Which they didn’t for six months. Only the tip led them to her.”
“If you hadn’t been at the lake, they might’ve dumped Milton in a place where he wouldn’t have been found for years either.”
“And we wouldn’t be where we are today.” Bond sighed and rose, stacked his dishes in the dishwasher, and then turned and ran the heels of his palms over his cheekbones and temples. “Being cooped up like this is killing me. I need to be out in the open, jogging, snowshoeing, on a snowmobile or even rabbit hunting. Instead, I’m stuck inside, and there are times when I feel I can’t breathe.”
He noticed how quiet Rory had become and regretted his outburst. He approached him from behind, put his hands on his shoulders, and leaned down to kiss the top of his head. “And where we are today is us reunited and in each other’s arms.”
