Most of the men were in their rooms by nine or so. Unless they went out on a call, they’d be up at five, eat breakfast, and be ready to leave when the next shift arrived at six.
As they headed for their rooms, Dane entered the one next to Bear’s and thought Barrington’s jaw tightened and a look almost of desperation crossed his face.
In response to that expression, Dane gestured with his palms up. “This was the only room free.” Then he wondered why he’d felt it necessary to explain anything.
Bear’s face cleared. He nodded. “Right. It’s good to have you here. We don’t have any other SAR or ball players here, and it’s nice to have someone to talk baseball, hounds and rescue with.”
