Leanna glances back at the buck, debating a sudden move, something stupid that will give her the kill, but whatever she sees in Tau’s hard gaze stops her from doing anything foolish. Turning on her heel, she flips her long blonde ponytail over one shoulder and mutters under her breath, “Asshole. I better be able to catch up with that doe or you owe me, mister. You hear?”
Tau says nothing. He simply waits until she exits the alley, then waits a moment longer until he hears her hurry off into the night. Behind him comes a skittish sound like hoofs scraping over brick and he can feel the buck’s heartbeat flutter in the palm of his hand. It excites him, stirring his blood, his libido, but still he waits. When he’s sure they are alone, thenhe turns, savoring the moment.
