Chapter 56

Some time later, Jory becomes aware of Bruce’s voice, low and concerned. Is he talking to Peter? Is Peter finally home?

Jory struggles to extract himself from the dream, but the snow covers his lap and he can’t feel his legs, his feet…his hands are numb. Even Peter’s hand in his is cold, so cold, so impossibly cold…

“He’s just not coping, Jan,” Jory hears Bruce say.

He frowns and pushes at the gray blanket covering his senses, blinding him, keeping him down. Why can’t he wake up? Where’s Peter?

Bruce’s voice drifts around him like freshly falling snow. “He insists Peter is coming back. I don’t know how much longer I can handle this. I don’t know howto handle this anymore.”

Peter?

Pain rushes at Jory suddenly, nausea washing through him, and he clutches his stomach against the sickness. Peter isn’t here right now, but he’s coming back. What’s Bruce talking about? He’s coming back.

“I just don’t know what to do,” Bruce admits.
