Chapter 6

When Guff had calmed down a bit, he said, “I should have known a man who wears dresses and boy shorts with ease would be a bit of a flirt.” He shook his head and drank some soda.

“I’m just trying to be neighborly, neighbor,” I replied, grinning cheekily before becoming serious again. “Look, Guff. I can really help you, if you want to put this all behind you. Come meet with my buddies at the agency and we’ll figure out a plan.”

“Let me think about it tonight. It’s a lot to process, and with what happened yesterday…”

“I get it. But I’ll expect an answer in the morning.”

He shrugged but didn’t respond. That air of dejection was something I never wanted to see on the big lug ever again. If it was the last thing I ever did, I would take care of his problem once and for all, just so I could see him smile again.
