I leaned back, looking at him as I thought about his proposition. “Just because I killed Carl doesn’t mean I could do it to someone else, in cold blood. I had a reason for what I did.”


“Look at it this way. Suppose the same situation happened with someone you didn’t know. That a son of a bitch lied, the way Carl did, and it led to the death of a third person at the hands of the man he lied to. Then, we were hired to deal with said liar. Could you?”
