“He’s definitely a social animal,” Coop said. “Three parties in one week?”

“‘Tis the season to be jolly,” I replied dryly.

“One more day and we can be very jolly.” He chuckled. “Maybe one of us should dress up as Santa for the gala. For damned sure no one would suspect himto try anything nefarious.”

“I think we’d have a hard time doing what we have to, since whichever one of us wore the costume would really stand out. If we could even find one this close to Christmas.”

“We’ll boost it off one of the bell-ringers.”

“Damn, Coop.”

“Sorry. I’m loopy on coffee.”

“The let’s get some food in you,” I suggested. “There’s an Italian restaurant a couple of blocks from here. I’ll call for carry-out and go pick it up.”

“I can…” Coop started to say.

“You can go shower and change into something comfortable. I’ll call when I’m back here.”

“Yes, sir,” Coop replied, giving me a salute before he left.
