Chapter 43

“I’m keeping you around as my disposal expert,” Coop said gleefully.

“You’re keeping me around no matter what,” I replied.

“Yeah, I am.” He squeezed my thigh, his hand drifting higher until I reminded him it would be hard for me to drive if my concentration was on other things. “Especially on these roads.” Then I changed the subject, asking, “Who’s Tanner?”

“He was Seward’s right-hand man. When the bust went down, he took off. No one seemed to know where he ended up. Or at least no one copped to it. Apparently he’s resurfaced. Maybe it’s in the info Reynolds sent.”

“Why come after you?”

“Revenge, I guess. I was instrumental in putting Seward out of business and sending him to jail, meaning Tanner was out of a very lucrative job, and on the run.”

“Now all we have to do is find him before he sends someone else after you.”
