Chapter 49

He eyed me. “Mick did. Right? Don’t feel you can’t mention him, now that we’ve moved past being just friends. I know he existed. I know what he meant to you, and I’m all right with it. Okay?”

“Yes.” I gave him a hug, and kept my arm around his waist as we continued walking. “He used poison a couple of times. Once in a drink. The other time in a cigarette filter. He knew the guy’s brand, bought a pack, soaked one filter with the poison then left the pack in the guy’s office drawer with a couple of cigs removed, to explain why the pack was open. Worked like a charm.”

“Great. But Tanner doesn’t smoke. He says it’ll kill you.”

“In that guy’s case, it did,” I said, chuckling. “Anyway, we don’t have time to get any decent poison. The more I think about it, the more I like taking him out at his house. Safer for us. Easier to get away. And, there’s the fact that he knows you, and may have people at the fundraiser who do as well.”
