Chapter 37

The long lane ended in the ranch yard. They got out of the Jeep and looked around. The ranch house itself looked to be in pretty good shape with nicely manicured flowerbeds and neatly pruned shrubbery. But the rest of the place was pretty dilapidated. There were several outbuildings looking like they were in need of repair. One was clearly a stable. There were paddocks with a few horses in them. Next to the house was a chicken coop. Hens of various breeds were scratching in the dirt. A rooster strutted around among them, eying the men warily.

“Not too impressive,” Seth said.

“No, but we’re not planning on leaving it as it is. We’d be tearin’ it down and rebuildin’ it anyway. Although I was hopin’ at least some a the buildin’s could be salvaged.”
