The horse snorted and kept eating his morning hay.

“Glad reinin’ horses don’t have to have their manes trimmed and banded. But I guess Merry’d have someone who could do it if you needed it doin’.” Just then Rio heard someone talking outside Zeus’ stall.

“Then, even though he knew there was a long line waiting to register for classes, he kept chatting up Shelly in the entry booth. What a macho jerk.” It was Mark’s voice.

“Maybe he just had questions. This is his first Quarter Horse show,” came a second voice, which Rio thought might be Caitlin.

Mark harrumphed. “Those handsome muscle studs are all alike. Stuck on themselves and think they’re God’s gift to the world. Anyway, now I’m late because of him and I have to get Peggy ready for showmanship.”
