“Be my guest,” Rio said.

“Then you won’t mind if I see if he’d like to have some fun at the bonfire tonight?”

“Why should I? I ain’t got no plans for the little shit.” But even as he said it, Rio felt a pang of something he couldn’t quite identify. He forced it out of his mind. The guy was bad news and that was that.

Mack and Seth planned some sort of icebreaker at the beginning of each week to get the guests interacting with each other—either a dance party in The Watering Hole Saloon, a barbeque on the patio, or a pool party. That night it would be a bonfire. A path behind the stable led to a wooded area that opened into a clearing in the center of which was a large, stone-lined fire pit. Around the pit were large logs and lounge chairs. There would be music and a portable bar.
