Chapter 93

They stopped atop a ridge to watch a herd of pronghorn antelope down in the valley.

“Oh my God!” Mark exclaimed. I’ve never seen any antelope before, at least not in the wild. They’re beautiful. Gee, I wish I wasn’t going home on Saturday!”

Rio felt a swoop of disappointment. “Saturday? Ya ain’t stayin’ the full two weeks?”

Mark turned to him. “No. I barely talked John and Alan into coming at all. They were sure it would be a bust. They were all about going to San Francisco. That’s where they’re off to when we leave here. Bet they’re sorry now!”

“What about you? You goin’ to California, too?”

“No. I’m going to join Merry in Boise for the last of the Quarter Horse circuit shows in Idaho. Then back home to get ready for school. I need to register for classes at Columbia.” Mark turned back to look at the peacefully grazing antelope.
