Chest to chest, smelling of Ivory soap, half panting, almost out of breath, and locked together in the way that only lovers could be.

“I really did miss you,” he said.

“You didn’t.”

“But I did. I really did miss you.”

And I believed him, placing my cheek on one of his shoulders, happy with him at my side, against me. The water fell along the side of my face, his shoulder; a moment that could only promise us a long future together, as lovers.

He didn’t spend the night; I remember that. Following a hot shower with him, kissing under its soothing spray, I watched him fold his clothes, including his underwear, and place them on a stool next to the bed where we had made love.

“I have to get back to the den. My parents, brothers, and sister will be looking for me. Particularly Pihu. She’s always watching me.”

I sat on the edge of the bed with a white towel over my center and asked, “You’re naked. Are you going home like that?”
