Chapter 74

“Good morning,” said Kiko. “What can I help you with, Buddy?”

“Heard you figured out your number four,” said Buddy. Kiko nodded.

“It probably saved my life, too. Thank Buddy Angus for me.” He personally believed it all to be coincidence—albeit happy coincidence—but he wasn’t about to ruin it for Buddy.

“Already done. The goose had another message, too. Well, more a desire. He wanted you to have this.”

Buddy stuck the thing he was holding out toward Kiko, who hesitated. Dom was brushing against his arm now, lending support Kiko was uncertain he needed. He took hold of the cloth and pulled. It was heavier than expected, but slid off easily.

Kiko recognized Owen’s work immediately, but all he could do was stare at first. It was Mother. The goose stood on a polished wood stand, posture proud, glass eyes unblinking, every feather perfect. Kiko was suddenly very grateful for Dom standing beside him and leaned into him.

“And don’t worry about the money, I paid for it,” said Buddy.
