“Good.” Mars enfolded him in a tight embrace, and they shared a heartfelt kiss. When they parted, he smiled. “Now, we eat dinner?”

“I think so. And then…”

“You know,” Dylan said pensively, several hours later, “there’s a big difference between screwing and having sex with someone you really care about.”

Mars leaned on one elbow to look down at him, a smile playing over his lips. “You’re just finding this out?”

“Silly, huh? At my age I really should know it. The thing is…” He looked somberly at Mars. “I never had the chance to find out.”

“Why? You said you were in love with Tommy.”

“I thought I was but obviously I was mistaken, on so many levels. What I felt was an illusion. Now—” he cupped his hand at the nape of Mars neck to pull him closer and kissed him, “—I know the difference between the illusion of caring and the reality. You docare for me. It showed in every move you made tonight.”
