Chapter 126

“Over there?” Van asked, nodding at one of the pocket parks which dotted the downtown area.

“We wouldn’t be walking,” Tate said, smiling.

“True.” Van glanced at him. “But it’s easier to talk if we’re looking at each other.”

Tate shrugged, heading to the park. There were a couple of empty benches. He opted for the one in the shade of a tall building. He was feeling better, but not good enough that he wanted the sun beating down on him if he could help it.

Van sat at the opposite end of the bench, staring down at his hands.

“Your game. You start,” Tate said a bit more abrasively than he’d meant it to come out.

“Not a game,” Van protested, still not looking at Tate. “I know it’s been a long time, but I miss you.”

“Me? Or the sex?”

“Sex I can get anytime I want it.”

“That’s a rather egotistical statement,” Tate replied, trying not to smile. Van always had been a man others gravitated to and they both knew it.
