Chapter 10

Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. When Rick took the last turn and Micah’s school came into view, Micah started up again. “Please, Daddy? Please? I’ll be good, I promise. I’ve never been in a comic shop before. You said I could go—”

“And you will,” Rick said. “On Friday. So stop pestering me about it or I won’t take you at all.”

With a “hrmph,” Micah crossed his arms and glared out the window. When Rick pulled up to the curb to let his son out, Micah still wouldn’t look at him. So Rick locked the doors and waited while Micah struggled with the latch. Finally, he burst out, “Dad!”

“Hey, listen to me.”

Micah glowered at the window, silent and angry.

“Micah,” Rick said.

“What.”

“Look at me.”

Micah threw himself back against the seat in a huff. “What?”

“You better change your attitude, mister,” Rick warned, “or I won’t take you to the comic shop at all. You can ask your mom—”

“Yeah, right,” Micah scoffed. “Like she’ddo it.”
