Chapter 14

When Rick didn’t answer, Marty grinned. “Lost your train of thought again? You seem to do that a lot when I’m right up on you like this. Like what you see?”

“I’m—I’m…um.” Rick ran a hand through his hair. It took everything he had to look away from Marty and turn his attention to the laptop screen instead. “Sorry. I’m a little distracted, I guess.”

“By me?” Marty asked bluntly. “Or are you just thinking ahead to dinner?”

Luckily Rick didn’t have to answer—the door to the shop opened and Marty sat back, putting some much needed distance between them. They both glanced over as two gangly teenagers slumped into the shop, one of them hunched over his cell phone. Marty’s grin widened. “Hey, guys! Come on in,” he called out, heading around the counter.
