“Our pasts are exactly that. In the past. Okay?” Gregg said. “We came into this knowing both of us have had other men in our lives. There’s not a damned thing wrong with that. It’s now that counts.”
Spence smiled weakly. “It is, and I’m sorry for being an ass.”
“Good lord, Spence. You weren’t at all. You were being human. End of subject. Now, what’s your next book going to be about?”
“I haven’t decided. Something different than what I’ve done before, I think.”
“No more thrillers?”
“No. Maybe a pure mystery, if I can pull it off.” Spence added hopefully, “An historical one.”
“Interesting. Why that?”
“I’m sort of a history buff, which you would have seen if you’d looked at the research books in my office. Jeff wasn’t, so we never went it that direction.”
“What time period?” Gregg asked.
“Mainly the Civil War.”
“My favorite. That would be an interesting backdrop.”
