Erika noticed something was up. “You okay?” she asked. “Oh. Is this about when I said you paid more attention to Bunny than me?” She hung her head. “I’m sorry. I know you’re trying to be a good foster owner. I guess I’m just used to being the center of attention around here.”
“Hey,” Austin said reassuringly, giving her a hug. “Don’t worry about it. Even if I do spend a lot of time with Bunny, you’re still the center of my universe.”
“Aww.” Erika beamed and cuddled against Austin’s chest.
“But I guess this means you don’t want a dog of our own?”
“Oh.” Erika drummed her fingers against Austin’s back. “Well, maybe, someday, I dunno.”
