Carlos sighed and murmured, “You have to act like an adult and put everything behind you. I’m sure the side of him you fell in love with would agree…”

He complied. Carlos was right; it would be hard, very hard, but he had to do it.

“Here’s the ball,” he said, finding it by the tree.

“Great!” Carlos looked at his watch. Their five minutes weren’t up yet, but worry appeared on his face. “Let’s hope you can hit it out of here…”

“Don’t worry, there are no plants in the shot line,” Reggie said, standing. “And we’ll trust the dantian point.”

Carlos stared at him, confused.

Against all expectations, even his own, Reggie wasn’t behind after the first hole, ending in a tie. It was as if he’d taken Carlos’s words to heart, giving him the strength he needed to react to even the badness of that morning.

He completed the nine holes with a clear score, three birdies, and six pars.

By the tenth hole, he was in second place, tied with Ian.
