Chapter 57

“Say it again.”

His request came out like an order. He wanted to hear the word a second time, the way Russell had said it. After what he’d been through, he had the right to. His repressed anger rose to the surface again.

The Englishman grew serious. Setting the spoon on the spoon rest, he moved away from the burner. It was clear he was nervous, too.

“Adorable,” Russell repeated, pronouncing each syllable.

Reggie trembled. He could feel quivers throughout his body, an incredible sensation. “Maybe now’s the time to talk, don’t you think?” he asked.

His heart beat so hard, it made his breath catch. The back of his neck tingled, and it felt like someone was squeezing his temples. This was the all-inmoment, when they would both lay all their cards on the table. He was scared to death, but he knew it was right. Since things with Russell had come to a point, he had become stronger, more grown up, able to deal with suffering. Maybe there really was some good in pain…
