Chapter 15

“We’ll never be far from you,” Dylan said as he opened the driver’s side door. “Will you watch Biggs for me? His leash is behind the back door.”

“Please, just talk to James,” Chris said. “This isn’t the right thing to do.”

Dylan shook his head. “Not yet.”

Dylan slid into the driver’s seat and then shut the door as Ron got in the passenger side. The garage opened as Dylan started the engine. He backed out the Mustang, then waited as the door closed. The engine roared as they sped off.

The rumble of the engine had always been one of Chris’s favorite sounds, but he hated it tonight. His protectors were gone and he would be facing the evil alone. An unyielding fear swirled inside Chris as he closed his eyes and brought his hands up to his mouth as if in prayer.

His dream date with James had somehow turned into a nightmare. 7
