Chapter 31

Dylan sighed heavily. “This bastard is smart.”

“Oh, speaking of bastards,” Chris said, “Bart Nolan stopped by the office and asked to take me to lunch for a business proposition, then turned into a jerk when I said no.”

Ron said, “What the hell is he up to?”

“We’ve been wondering about Nolan,” Dylan said. “We need to find out what he really knows.”

“I can follow him,” Chris said.

“No,” Dylan said. “Stay away from him. One of us will follow him.”

“I want to help.”

Dylan said, “You arehelping by staying safe. That’s the best defense we have right now. Don’t trust anyone, not even James.”

“He’s not behind this.”

Dylan sighed. “I really don’t think it’s him, but I’d hate to be wrong.”

“He was with me the night you got into this mess,” Chris said.

“I know,” Dylan said, “I don’t like him.”

“Ilike him, so get over whatever it is you have about him.”

Dylan said, “His career comes first, so he might use you to catch us.”
