Chapter 16

White. Everything was white when he opened his eyes. He didn’t recognize the place and he didn’t remember how he’d gotten there. And he really didn’t care. All he wanted to do was curl up and sleep.

It was a whole different feeling when he next opened his eyes. He balled up his blanket and hurled it at the wall, and then the pillow. He hurled himself down onto the floor, wincing at the throbbing in his head. He threw himself against the door over and over before it slammed open and a nurse entered, followed by several orderlies, and he screamed—or tried to, but no sound came out—as the orderlies grabbed him and pinned him down to the bed as the nurse prepared an injection. He closed his eyes when the needle plunged through his skin.
