Chapter 22

“…you were saying?”

Sebastian was suddenly aware of Houston and his confusion but he couldn’t focus on him, his attention wholly fixed on the TV. People might not see the likeness right away—he was, after all, much older now—but sooner or later they would see him and remember the picture on TV. Worse, his face would be all over the town tomorrow morning in every newspaper. He started to tremble. Not from fear but from fury. Who might have realized who he was?

“S…Sebastian?”

“I’ve got to go,” he said tersely, throwing a twenty on to the table as he walked away. He just hoped that Houston wouldn’t see his picture on the TV and connect it to him right away.
