Chapter 18

“You didn’t ask your parents for help?”

“They disapproved of me and my choices,” Ian spat out bitterly. “I’m not close to any of my relatives.”

“Meaning?”

“I came out to my family years ago right after high school graduation and they were less than happy about it. There was no huge argument when I told them about my sexuality, but they were definitely not accepting. We’ve not seen one another ever since.”

The two men stared at each other for a while before they were interrupted with the arrival of their food. When they had eaten a bite or two, Mike questioned the other man again.

“Why did you leave?”

“The agency was pushing me to provide sexual favors, but I refused, and it became a constant thing. I’m not a blushing virgin or anything, but I do have my pride. Sexual favors are like prostitution. Not that I’ve got anything against it, but it’s just not for me.”

“You’re a good fighter, though,” Mike pointed out, subtly reminding the other man of their previous altercation.
