Chapter 29

Relieved and a little surprised at his luck, Tristan gazed down at Rain’s peaceful face. The sun was rising, but the window was open and there was a cold draft coming into the room. Tristan touched Rain’s bare shoulder; his skin was cool. Carefully, he untangled himself out of the cloth, found his underwear and jeans, and slipped those on. He rose and zipped up, then shut the window, trying not make too much noise.

“Where are you going?” Rain asked, in a voice full of asleep. He sat up and gave him a heartbreaking look. “You’re sneaking out on me?”

“Of course not.” Tristan sat by Rain on their makeshift bed. “I’d never sneak out on you like that. But you were cold.” He kissed Rain’s shoulder and rubbed his arm. “Put your shirt on.” He felt so protective of Rain. Couldn’t help it. Rain brought out that side of him. “Are you thirsty?”

“No…” Rain slipped his T-shirt on. It was inside out. “I guess we fell asleep, huh?”
