Chapter 32

Rain rolled his eyes at him, annoyed and tired of these games. “You’re such a jerk,” he said, shaking his head. “You really are, Milo.” He stepped towards the front door. “I’m gonna check up on our son.”

In two long strides, Milo was standing inches from him. “I know I’m a jerk,” he said, right into Rain’s ear. “But I’m yourjerk, Rain. Nobody else’s. Remember that.” He pressed Rain’s shoulders. “Come home this weekend. Please. Just a weekend. You’ll sleep in the guestroom. I’m not asking for much. Just a chance.”

Rain shut his eyes. “I can’t.”

“You can’t give me a chance?” Milo gently turned him around, keeping his hands on his shoulders. “Don’t you know what date Saturday is?”

Saturday was the anniversary of Milo’s father’s death. He remembered now. “You’ll be with Philip. You can count your blessings that day, instead of blaming yourself.”
