Chapter 67

“Everything okay?” Tristan asked, sitting by him on the bed.

Rain looked over, and knew then what he had to do. It was time to have a real, face to face talk with Milo. “Tristan, I’m gonna need you to be understanding, okay? I have to go to Otterburn Park this week and talk with Milo. See what’s been going on with him and make everything clear between us.”

“No, what’s the point of going—”

“Tristan, listen to me. He’s heartbroken. He’s still hanging on to a dream and I’m the only one who can cut him loose. Do you understand? I’mthe one who can cut that string. No one else. Then it’ll be over. I know he needs to hear it clearly and once and for all, from me. Eye to eye.”

“Do you know what you’re asking of me here? You’re asking me to trust the same guy you said locked you up in a laundry room for a whole night.”

Rain gripped Tristan’s hands and squeezed them hard. “Trust me. Not him. I know he won’t do anything to me. I swear to you. I lived with him for fourteen years.”
