“Yes, but I also remember how we fought the very next day, Milo. And how you threw me out of your hotel room. Then I remember sobbing at the bus station, in my black shorts and pink suspenders, completely broken up and not understanding what I’d done to piss you off so much. I blamed myself.”

“But I found you, didn’t I? I apologized. Bought you that watch, remember?”

“Oh, we were doomed, Milo. Right from the start. We should have known we’d only bring the worst out of each other.” Rain took a sip of coffee, but his throat was tight. He set his cup down. He needed Tristan. He missed him so much.

“I love you,” Milo said, breaking down. “Don’t leave me. Please, Rain, don’t leave me.”

“I hate to see you like this, Milo.” Rain pressed Milo’s shoulder gently. “I didn’t come here to break you, okay? I came here to say goodbye.”
