“If I want to be on time.” Mike told Sage he’d call him later, and left.

Jon had been watching Brody during the entire discussion, seeing hope grow then fade. Now Brody looked as if he honestly believed there could be a final resolution to his death. Jon was happy for him, even if it meant he’d be losing the only real friend he had. Sure, he said he wouldn’t move on unless I could as well. But that was then. When it comes down to it, and he has the chance, I know he’ll take it. He’d be insane not to. Whatever lies beyond, it has to be better than spending forever suspended between life and death, the way we are now. 9

Two days passed with no word from Mike—through Sage—about his interview with Cal Tanner.
