“When I thought about it, I realized the show they were rehearsing wasn’t the kind where anyone wouldscream. So I came out to see what had happened.” He grimaced. “I had visions of the trapdoor opening under someone again, even though I read the guys the riot act about it being left unlocked and Lydia taking a fall as a result.” He looked at Mike. “Do you know about that?”

“I do. And about the ladder, and the fact there was almost a fire in the costume shop.”

Tommy’s mouth tightened. “Things are getting strange around here. Okay, yeah, all the accidents were due to someone being careless, but still, it’s weird.”

“I won’t say I disagree,” Mike replied. “Although I don’t see how they would connect with Mr. Burton’s murder.”

“Isn’t it obvious? It was supposed to look like another accident. Even you thought it was, the first time you were here.”
