Chapter 32

“Nope. I didn’t see any need to.” Ash looked at Kegan. “Why did you? And what is it.”

“Mark Quincy Raines. I changed it when I joined the Agency, at Morse’s suggestion. I’d been an undercover cop before he recruited me. He said too many people within the force knew that, which he didn’t like, so he had me choose a new one.”

Ash snickered. “Quincy?”

“Family name. Deal.”

“I’m not the one tagged with it, so I don’t—” Ash yawned, “—don’t have to.”

“You need to sleep,” Kegan said firmly. “No arguments.”

Ash didn’t, only saying, “The adrenaline has definitely worn off and those pain pills are kicking in, finally.” He slid down, resting his head on a pillow, and promptly fell asleep.

“He’s going to be okay?” Gage asked with a worried frown.

“Yeah. As wounds go, it wasn’t bad. I’ve seen worse from a knife cut.”

Gage snorted. “Considering the ones you deal out, I think that’s a given.”
