“Nah. I mean, thanks and all, but you probably don’t need me? She was the worst yesterday when I told her about Sarah and all, and she was, like, already pissed because I’m not driving all the way back Tuesday night for my birthday. So I’m like, spend some more time with her tonight, right?”
“That would make sense as a plan,” said Kiko. He didn’t really need Chad, not with Dom here and with him planning on only staying open a few more hours anyway. But he paused like he was considering the request. “All right, Chad, you can take off. But I will need you next weekend early for the Heartstival.”
“Got it,” said Chad, though he didn’t completely straighten. It was obvious he didn’t really care to go to his mother’s, just that he seemed relieved he wouldn’t have to deal with her being angrier at him. “Gotta pick up my own cake on the way over, too. Like, this is the worst birthday.”
