The hostess fairly skipped to open the door when she saw Mark rolling up. Dan and Jan’s was busy but not packed. Mark cast an eye around the room. “I’m kinda meeting a couple people,” he told the hostess. “But I don’t see them. Do you know if Bodhi’s still around?”
“Oh, you know Bodhi?” This delighted the hostess.
“Kinda. He’s friends with my husband.”
“Oh wow, is Starr your husband?”
“Yeah.”
“You lucky duck.”
Mark laughed. “Yeah, well…he coulda done worse, too, ya know,” he teased.
“He never said you were such a babe,” said the hostess in agreement. “They’re not here, though. They took off. Just a couple minutes ago.”
“Shucks.”
“Personally, if you were my husband, I’da waited,” she said.
Mark smiled. “They didn’t know I was coming. I was just in the neighborhood.”
“I don’t know where all they went. Bodhi just said bye. You should call him.”
