Chapter 21

“Why don’t you grab a nap if you’re tired,” Hunter said, patting his thigh for Van to lay his head on.

“As tempting as that is, I think I’ll stay awake a bit longer. How many miles are we going?”

“About two hundred or maybe a little more. Should you call Matty to let him know you’re safe for the moment and not to worry?”

“Yeah, probably.” Van snorted. “He’s a worrier. I guess in his shoes, I would be, too. I’ll send him a text and let him know I’m okay.” He plugged the charger cord for his phone into Matt’s charging port.

“Just don’t say too much, in case he loses his phone.”

“Good point. I didn’t think of that. Lucky for us, we had no real plans at work for this week, so being away isn’t a hardship. If something comes up, Matty can handle it.”

Hey, just checking in. All is well, just taking a long weekend. I’ll touch base when I get back.

Van hit send and felt his eyes get droopy as he leaned his head against the back of the seat.
