Chapter 35

Reaching for his phone, he realized it had slid to the floor on the passenger side of the vehicle. Keeping both hands on the wheel and his vehicle steady in the lane was turning out to be a major problem. Again, someone slammed into the truck, this time more to the right, throwing him into a spin that landed him in the ditch.

Reaching under the seat of the truck, he prayed there was a gun or something to protect himself with when he heard the report from a gun as the bullet shattered the back window. Reaching into the glove box, he finally felt what he was looking for, but there was no time to use it when someone came up to the driver’s side of the truck and knocked him in the head with the butt of a gun. He vaguely recalled seeing a bulky arm with an anchor tattoo, but he couldn’t be sure.

As the lights started to dim, he rushed to put the gun he found, praying it had bullets in it, into his pants. He hoped they wouldn’t discover it.
