Chapter 20

They’d walked several miles before they heard the ATV’s distinctive growl. A few minutes later they saw it, Manuel at the controls. Just as they came together, Alex settled to the ground and shifted out of his raven form.

“Didn’t see any baddies,” he announced. “You okay, boss-man?” His glance touched Aron briefly, but lingered on Clay, concern in his gaze instead of his normal cool, bland expression.

“A lot better than the last time you saw me,” Clay said. “In fact, in some ways I’ve never been better. As for the rest, we’re working on that.”

Alex narrowed his eyes for a moment, as if he were altering his vision. Aron would have sworn the tall shifter did exactly that and drew upon some version of true sight, either part of his shifter abilities or learned from Sidhe-strong relatives. After a moment, he nodded and then smiled. “So I see. That’s good. I wish you both well. Let’s head back.”
