Chapter 16

Standing my ground, I shook my head. “No make-out session, although it does sound rather enticing.”

“Well, if you have a different heart, you know how to reach me.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

He chortled. “Keep this in mind, Mark.”

He kissed me, causing the planet to shake under us and a rocking earthquake of sorts to occur in our small, lakeside town.

After the kiss, he touched the tip of his nose with mine again and grinned from ear to ear. “You’re an amazing man, Mr. Landing.”

“And you’re still trying to get in my pants.”

“Frankly, I’ll try anything I can. I just don’t want you to be the guy who gets away. Something tells me I’d regret that.”

I pointed to the third-floor apartment and said, “My lease isn’t up for another year. I’ll be up there.”

“Is that an invite to join you tonight?”

His question caused me to smile. “Not this time, Cane. Maybe soon, though. But only if you play your cards right.”

“Goddamn,” he whispered. “I like it when a guy plays hard to get.”
