Chapter 13

“Almost there, Craig,” I said, my heartrate quickening. “Twenty feet at most.”

“Be careful, Fierce.” I nodded. “And I, you know, love you.”

I stopped in my tracks. “Huh?”

“Not that again.”

I coughed. I dropped the box. I heard a noise behind the door I was standing in front of. A man came out. He smelled like her, like the girl. This had to be the father. He looked nervous. I felt much the same way.

“Can I help you?” he asked.

“I, um, I’m here to, uh…” I snapped my fingers. Wolves didn’t talk; wolves acted. Meaning, I lunged. The man went down. I pinned him to the floor. He tried to fight, but, well, good luck with that. Man vs. wolf. You do the math. “Where’s the girl?”

His eyes went wide. “What…what girl?”

His heart rate quickened. His pupils dilated. He’d been caught. I could smell it coming off him, could smell the fear. Had I fangs, I would’ve sunk them in somewhere deep and bloody. “What’s her name?” He didn’t answer. It didn’t matter; I wasn’t talking to him anyway.
