I looked around, my head whipping left and right, but all appeared to look the same. That is until I lifted a nearby bit of stony debris and tossed it at the door. The stone was cut in half in an instant by a blinding red laser beam. I jumped in place. “Um, what if that was one of us?” I hazarded to ask.

He walked to the same spot and, as I cringed, hopped across the threshold. “Facial and voice recognition. We and our parents are protected. There’s also a sound activated alarm that warns anyone thinking of entering that it might not be such a smart idea. Not if they enjoy having their bottom half meet their top.” He touched his eye mask. A similar laser beam, only smaller, shot from it. “Just in case.”

Again, I cringed. “And if they come through the roof?” I pointed upward, at the myriad of gaping holes.

“Test it,” he told me, again touching some hidden button in his outfit.
