So, we searched for kittens, in a manner of speaking.

By the end of the summer, we’d thwarted jaywalkers, graffiti artists, and litterers, avoiding the police at all costs. We kept in superhero practice, if just barely. The press all but vanished, my ego right along with it. You know, sort of. I mean, super egos don’t diminish all that easily, mine especially.

Craig and I fell back into our old ways. There was peace in the valley, peace in my soul. Then again, he hadn’t asked me to shoot the guy who tossed a Coke can into the street, so what was there to argue about? And yet, some of the wall remained, a remnant of it, rooted deep into the soil. The heat of the season remained, but a cool breeze could intermittently be felt. And though time might indeed heal all wounds, we were fast running out of it.
